Ayurveda the Science of Life
Your healthy Lab needs regular veterinary care so she'll stay healthy. Even if she's never sick and she never gets hurt, she'll still need to be immunized periodically to protect her from serious diseases. She'll still need to be checked for internal parasites and treated if necessary. She'll still need regular dental prophylaxis. If she doesn't receive this care, she probably won't stay healthy for very long. In addition, getting regular care means your veterinarian will be able to check your Lab for problems that may be just starting, including some that you might not be aware of such as eye problems, heart problems and suspicious lumps. Health problems that are detected early usually have a better chance of being successfully treated. So if you must scrimp scrimp on your Lab's toys or her dog treats, but don't scrimp on her health care
Keeping Buddy in good health isn't nearly as easy as it was 50 years ago. It seems that with the advance of science in so many dog-related fields, dogs should be healthier than ever. This isn't the case. Too often through poor breeding practices, poor nutrition, and overvaccination, a dog's health has been threatened as never before.
Your Lab needs proper dental care to stay healthy. Cavities aren't the problem for Labs that they are for humans, but all breeds of dog are prone to developing gum diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis and periodon-tal abscesses. Regularly brushing your Lab's teeth will reduce plaque a soft, colorless tooth-coating scum that is the primary cause of gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). Calculus hard yellowish or brownish deposits found on the teeth promotes plaque formation. Brushing won't decrease calculus, but your veterinarian can remove it when cleaning your Lab's teeth. Persistent gingivitis can lead to periodontitis and periodontal abscesses, which can cause tooth loss by destroying the supporting structures that hold the teeth in place.
Keeping your dog's teeth clean is just as important to her good health as it is for you to keep your own teeth clean. Many studies have shown that disease in the gums, teeth, and mouth can travel through the body, primarily through the bloodstream, and can affect other organs. One study in particular found a direct link between a dirty mouth and heart disease in older dogs.
You may want to ship your dog by public carrier to another city, state or country. Trucking concerns, railroads, airlines and steamship lines will accept your dog for transportation, subject to certain rules. These carriers are considered to be semipublic agencies and are obliged to take your dog, providing he is in good health and free from infectious disease. You are required to produce a certificate stating the dog is in good health, free from infectious disease, and inoculated against rabies.
The problem with not being able to see the dog's parents, the breeding facility where it was born, or even the breeder is that you can't get a sense as to whether the adorable little Dachshund was socialized at all, raised in healthy conditions, or bred to minimize health problems (like disk disease). That Dachsie in the window may turn out to be a wonderful pet, but your odds for securing a pet with good health and temperament are better if you buy from a breeder.
Spaying and neutering also have a direct relationship with your dog's ongoing good health and longevity. A female dog (also called a bitch) who has been spayed has a lowered risk of breast cancers and is protected against cancers of the reproductive system. In most females, spaying also decreases the incidence of female aggression. A male dog (also called a dog) who has been neutered is protected against testicular cancer and will have fewer hormone-related bad behaviors, including leg lifting and marking, humping or mounting, roaming, and fighting. Neutering decreases a male's desire to escape from the yard and decreases the incidences of fighting.
A cat's vitamin and mineral needs, while basically the same as a dog's, can be more challenging to meet. Here is a list of the vitamins and minerals that are essential to a cat's good health Zinc promotes healthy skin, healing of wounds, and utilization of proteins and carbohydrates.
The first thing you have to do when you get an adult dog is to have him check by a vet. Once you know that your dog is in perfect health, you can start housetraining him. Of course, your dog's previous owner may have perfectly housetrained him. If that's the case, all you'll have to do his show your dog his new elimination zone or toilet stop.
If veterinary medicine isn't confusing enough for most dog owners, now you have even more choices to make. Many veterinarians now practice alternative medicine, offering acupuncture, chiropractic therapies, herbal remedies, and homeopathy. This is particularly important for those people who use these remedies for themselves and their families now the same techniques are available for family pets.
I Toothbrush and toothpaste It may seem silly to you, but brushing your dog's teeth is essential for her good health. Brushing keeps tartar buildup at bay (excessive tartar buildup must be removed by a vet, often under general anaesthetic, which is always a risk). Tooth decay and bacteria in your dog's mouth can lead to heart disease and other serious health problems especially as your Dachshund ages.

Dogs love to be active a major reason why they are great walking jogging running bike riding partners. Howard Erickson, professor of physiology at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine says that jogging, in particular, can benefit your dog greatly. Not only does it help dogs stay healthy and maintain muscle tone but it also helps with temperament. Some dogs can get very antsy if left alone for an extended period of time. An activity that allows them to burn off this stored up energy can only help to relieve stress and eradicate any destructive behavior.
Swimming is a great way for dogs to get their exercise. It is a low-impact form of exercise that doesn't tax any joints, but builds muscles. Dogs that are prone to gaining weight can swim to remain in shape and cut pounds from their frames. Good health can be maintained while the dog is having fun.
The veterinarian to whom you choose to give your business to will become your partner in your dog's continued good health. Like a family physician, the veterinarian will get to know your dog, keep records on her weight and physical condition, and will help your dog through any physical difficulties.
It is vitally important for your dog's health that he get adequate exercise. Obviously, adequate will differ from breed to breed and dog to dog, but dogs who get a good deal of exercise chew far less than dogs who get little or none. To start an exercise program, check with your vet to make sure your dog is in good health and get exercise suggestions based on your dog's specific condition. On a personal note, I have a Basset Hound, which is not
As long as you have good health, there are five paces for you to use for pace changing jog, quick, normal, slow, and baby steps. To effectively change your pace, you will need to change your stride. If you like to walk for exercise you will need to pay special attention to pace changes. If your knees have trouble with jog and quick, don't bother with them. Compensate by being really clever with your slower pace changes.
The best methods for prevention are those involved in a healthy lifestyle. Keep your pooch active, feed him appropriately, make sure he drinks enough water on a daily basis, and try to rid his environment of any unnecessary stressors. While it's tempting to give your wallet a break by opting for clinic vaccinations, try to find and stick with a veterinarian who is compatible with both you and your dog, then have him examine your pup annually. This allows the vet to be familiar with your dog's normal appearance and personality and can help him detect problematic growths before they get too out of control.
