Fractures

A dog with a fracture may hold her injured leg off the ground or cry in pain. If a bone is broken, you will need to get your JRT to the veterinarian immediately. Slip the dog onto a piece of plywood or other sturdy surface to be transported. Try to keep the injured limb immobile. It's good if someone can help you calm the dog and keep her still.

If there is no fracture, it is possible the dog picked up a thorn or other object that has punctured or become imbedded in her pad or the soft tissue between the toes.
