When your dog hears the word COME, you want him to think immediately of being near you. When he isn't near you and he hears this command, he should immediately want to run over to you to reconnect. To establish this sense of urgency and fun, act up when you call to him. Say COME and then step back or run away from him or even run and hide. Do this exercise in the house where there are few distractions. Praise him a lot when he gets to your side and reward him with hugs, treats, or a toy. Mix up the rewards so he'll never know what to expect.
